Lately I am very very attracted to midcentury style in architecture and design. It is after Mad Men that I watched and loved that I was influenced? Or it’s just fashion that hit me with its arrow..I don’t know…All I know is that this style is a current trend in my field and I love it!
So, after hexagon post I will show you some examples that I collected when I was working in a project of 60’s style last months(I was that lucky!). This post is more about austere version of midcentury style, I have a more funny version for another post, stay tuned!
So, What’s your opinion about midcentury style, is it just me that I like it?
Chairs in 60’s style. Not my favorite but Orla Kiely is a totally 60’s style designer, check it out here
Blue tiles in vintage patterns reminds me of the aegean see! That’s why I have it in my mind with summer feelings, I don’t know.. The truth is that in summer cottages in combination with white, bright wood and some vintage touch give a beautiful result!! The patterns are numerous, from retro style that reminds Portuguese tiles or Instanbul something..to geometric schemes that makes it more modern, you can’t choose really! At least I couldn’t..I would like all of them in my house!
Different patterns of the same color, in the kitchen. Made a mano
In the bathroom, nostalgic feeling
Different patterns again in blue with a vintage faucet. Made a mano
Casa Lola is a rental property in Trancoso, Brazil, made by New York designer Jan Eleni. Now that the world cup finished we may look at Brasil in another view again. This vacation house completes a fantasy of relaxing in a fishing village where your everyday life is sleeping, swimming, eating fish that you catch on the afternoon and stuff like that!
Eleni and her husband worked with a local architecture/construction firm and renovated an existing cottage creating an open, airy space. The materials that are used highlight the natural environment and the localily. Concrete floors, raw wood and minimal but traditional decoration with some modern elements like photos.
In addition to the main house that they renovated, Eleni also designed a new guest house. This is my favorite!!! You will see why…
The open living and dining space that faces out onto the pool
Some of the furniture she designed them by herself using reclaimed local materials and some of them she purchased by locals.
A view of the guest cottage from the main house. Totally love it!!!
The shower in the guest cottage has a wooden shower head made from a fallen tree, and copper faucet knobs made by local artisans.
The photos are taken at the begginins, go to the site to see the rest of them!!
I will follow with another post with updated photos and if I won’t persuade you to go there my blue flamingo will loose its futhers!
I find all these “bathrooms” just amazing! The idea of taking a shower in the open air reminds me the summers when I was little, where we used to rinse after the sea, outside in the yard. With the garden hose most of the times. These examples have taken this idea one step ahead and created a space very practical but most important relaxing and beautiful!
Black&White &wood in the nature. Nice element the bench idea
Simplicity wins every time! Who needs more?
Minimal design dominates here
One of my favorite! Dark walls, trunks and a phrase as a hanger
Antique metal tub in the nature. Like the old old days!! What simplier than that?

Tiles and plants create a tropical atmosphere

This time I have some extremely summery patterns for you! Swimmers everywhere! With their bathing suits, their summer hats and their sea glasses. And of course they need a place to change so we have the tents too!

Well, here we are, some great yards and gardens are here to impress you! I’m sure you will imagine yourself in everyone of them, relaxing under the shade, even with a cocktail in the hand!
